Close Encounters with Westerly and Narragansett Pier Granites

Overview: 

Alleghanian igneous activity is before us at an accessible quarry location (courtesy Rawson Materials, Westerly, RI) and also in selected, protected land trust locations in the greater Mystic area of CT. We will explore these exposures and outcrops, exploring the mineralogical complexity of these sites, and placing their occurrences in broader tectonic context.
