Details

This trip will transect the metamorphic and igneous lithologies near the southern terminus of the Central Maine Terrane in northeastern Connecticut (CT). This region is critical to the recent "Acadian Altiplano" hypothesis (Hillenbrand et al., 2021), featuring exposure of some of the highest-pressure metamorphic rocks in New England and globally  (10-20 kb [1-2 GPa]; Keller and Ague, 2018; Ferrero et al., 2021) as well as a large high temperature to ultra-high temperature metamorphic province (e.g., Robinson and Tracy, 1982; Ague et al., 2013; Axler and Ague, 2015). New, dense-deployment seismic data transects this area with future deployments investigating corresponding lithologic units further north in New England (central Massachusetts and New Hampshire). Throughout the trip, we will explore the variations in deformation style and metamorphic grade across NE Connecticut (within the Bronson Hill Anticlinorium, Central Maine Terrane, Merrimack Terrane, and Putnam-Nashoba Terrane) and discuss our observations in the framework of new…
