This two-day field trip will cover exemplary outcrops, cores, and fossils spanning Late Triassic and Early Jurassic strata in the Newark and Hartford Basins, day 1 and day 2, respectively. We will focus on and debate interpretations of lacustrine cyclicity, the change in the modality of orbital pacing associated with climate, and ecosystem change caused by the volcanic winters and global warming associated with the CAMP, which also triggered the ETE. A switch to obliquity pacing during CAMP eruptions suggests the transient development of significant Arctic glaciation. Quarries, road cuts, and natural outcrops will be visited with superbly displayed sedimentary cyclicity and CAMP lava flows. On day 1 we will also visit the Rutgers Core Repository with +10 km of core, relevant intervals of which will…
